LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (May 26, 2017) – According to reports broadcast on local Orlando news channel WFTV, Disney has filed a permit application with the South Florida water management district for work regarding the area directly behind Epcot‘s attraction Universe of Energy, which houses Ellen’s Energy Adventure. Approval would allow Disney to fill in the canal behind the attraction, as well as clear and pave part of the forest.
Observers indicate this is the first in a series of formal steps that will lead to the replacement of one of Epcot’s original (although updated) Future World Attractions.
According to the report, The project map cover a 1.2 million square-foot area. Although that area includes Universe of Energy, no work on the attraction itself is mentioned.
